Steps
1
Download MeshMapper

MeshMapper is a mobile app that logs the packets your device hears and plots them on a map as you drive.

Android APK also available directly from GitHub releases if you prefer to sideload.
We recommend following MeshMapper's own getting started guide for full setup — it covers connecting your device and uploading your first drive.
2
Connect your device

Connect your MeshCore device to your laptop over USB. Open MeshMapper and select the serial port for your device — it should appear in the port dropdown once plugged in.

3
Choose Hybrid Mode

When MeshMapper asks how you want to run, choose Hybrid Mode. This enables GPS logging and associates each received packet with a location, which is what makes the coverage map useful.

Don't skip this. Other modes still log packets but without location data — you'll get a log file with no map output.
4
Use an external antenna

An external 900 MHz antenna is recommended — you'll hear significantly more while driving than with the stock whip. A magnetic-mount on the roof of the car is ideal.

5
Drive and log

Once everything is connected and Active Mode is running, just drive. MeshMapper will log every packet your device hears along with the GPS position at the time it was received.

Cover the routes you want to map — highways, back roads, town centers. The more area you cover, the more complete the picture of what the mesh can reach.

Results update as you drive. MeshMapper generates the coverage map in real time — no need to wait until the end of the run.
Had any connection drops during the run? MeshMapper saves data locally when the connection is interrupted. After your drive, check MeshMapper → Settings → Offline Sessions → Upload to recover and submit any data that didn't sync in real time.
